What is mould and why does it grow in homes?

Mould is a type of fungus that grows in damp, warm environments. It reproduces by releasing microscopic spores into the air. In Australian homes, mould thrives when relative humidity exceeds 60%, common in bathrooms, laundries, wardrobes, and poorly ventilated rooms. It feeds on organic materials like plasterboard, timber, carpet, and even dust.
Is mould dangerous to my health?

Yes, prolonged exposure to mould can cause respiratory issues, allergic reactions, skin irritation, and eye irritation. People with asthma, allergies, or compromised immune systems are particularly vulnerable. Some species like Stachybotrys (black mould) produce mycotoxins that can cause more serious health effects including chronic fatigue and neurological symptoms.
What does black mould look like?

Black mould (Stachybotrys chartarum) typically appears as dark green to black patches with a slimy or wet texture. However, many mould species appear dark, not all black-looking mould is Stachybotrys. Professional testing is the only way to confirm the species and assess the health risk.
Can I just see mould, or can it be hidden?

Visible mould is often just the tip of the iceberg. Mould commonly grows inside wall cavities, behind wallpaper, under carpet, inside HVAC systems, and in roof spaces. If you can smell a musty odour but can't see mould, there's likely hidden contamination. Professional air testing can detect airborne spore levels even when mould isn't visible.
What causes mould to come back after cleaning?

Mould returns when the underlying moisture source isn't addressed. Common culprits include poor ventilation, leaking pipes, rising damp, condensation on cold surfaces, and inadequate waterproofing. Cleaning only removes surface mould, without fixing the moisture problem, regrowth is inevitable. Our maintenance programs address this with ongoing monitoring and retreatment.

What happens during a mould assessment?

We conduct a thorough inspection of your property including visual assessment, moisture mapping with professional meters, and air or surface sampling where needed. We identify the type and extent of contamination, locate moisture sources, and provide a detailed report with a tailored remediation plan and quote.
How long does mould remediation take?

Most residential properties can be treated in a single visit lasting 2–6 hours depending on the size and severity of contamination. Larger properties, severe infestations, or commercial buildings may require multiple visits. We'll give you a clear timeline during the assessment.
Do I need to leave my home during treatment?

No. SAN-AIR is 100% natural and safe for occupied spaces. There are no harsh chemicals, no toxic fumes, and no evacuation required. You, your family, and your pets can stay home during and after treatment.
What is the remediation process?

Our process follows four steps: (1) Assessment, identify contamination type, extent, and moisture source. (2) Source treatment, address the underlying moisture problem. (3) Surface remediation, physical removal of visible mould using SAN-AIR products. (4) Air treatment, deploy SAN-AIR gels and fogging to treat airborne spores and penetrate concealed areas for ongoing protection.
How do you prevent mould from coming back?

We address the root cause (moisture), not just the symptom (mould). After remediation, we install SAN-AIR gel systems that continuously purify indoor air for up to 3 months. We also provide ventilation advice and offer quarterly maintenance programs with ongoing monitoring.

SAN-AIR is an Australian-developed, plant-based antimicrobial technology. It uses a blend of natural essential oils and plant extracts that evaporate into the air as a fine vapour. Is SAN-AIR safe for pets and children?

Absolutely. SAN-AIR is 100% natural, TGA-accredited, and independently tested by UNSW and Eurofins Laboratories. There are no synthetic chemicals, no toxic residues, and no harmful fumes. It's safe for continuous use around children, pets, and people with chemical sensitivities.
Is SAN-AIR scientifically proven?

Yes. SAN-AIR has been independently tested by UNSW (University of New South Wales) and Eurofins, a globally accredited laboratory. Testing confirmed efficacy against common indoor mould species including Aspergillus niger and Stachybotrys chartarum (black mould), as well as airborne bacteria.
Why don't you use bleach or chemical treatments?

Bleach kills surface mould but doesn't penetrate porous materials. Roots survive and regrow. It also releases chlorine gas, damages surfaces, and the water content can actually promote regrowth. Chemical biocides leave toxic residues in your home. SAN-AIR treats the air itself, reaches concealed areas, and leaves no harmful residues.
What does TGA-accredited mean?

The TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) is Australia's regulatory authority for therapeutic goods. TGA accreditation means SAN-AIR products have been assessed for safety and quality. It's the same regulatory body that oversees medicines and medical devices in Australia.

How much does mould remediation cost?

Every property is different. Cost depends on the size of the affected area, type of mould, severity of contamination, and what materials are affected. We start with an assessment and provide a detailed, no-obligation quote. Most residential treatments are completed in a single visit.
Do you offer assessments?

Yes, we provide initial on-site assessments for residential properties within our service areas. The assessment includes a visual inspection, moisture readings, and a verbal overview of the problem and recommended treatment. Detailed written reports with lab testing are available at additional cost.
Is mould remediation covered by insurance?

It depends on what caused the mould. Insurance typically covers mould resulting from sudden, accidental events (burst pipes, storm damage, flooding) but excludes mould caused by gradual deterioration, poor maintenance, or wear and tear. Do you provide reports for insurance claims?

Yes. Our assessment reports include species identification, moisture mapping, scope of damage, and a remediation plan, all the evidence insurers need to process a claim. We work regularly with insurance assessors and understand what documentation is required.
Are there ongoing costs after treatment?

The initial remediation is a one-off cost. We recommend SAN-AIR gel replacements every 3 months (available from our online shop) and offer optional quarterly maintenance programs. Prevention is always cheaper than repeated remediation.
